Committing to my New Year’s resolutions, it’s time to try potty training my turdler for the second time. Now that Riley knows what a potty is, where it is, that everyone (including Elmo) uses it, and what goes in it… I think it’s safe to say we have the foundation set.
What I’ve Been Doing
Not much since our last endeavor. We have been trying to teach the different vocabulary terms, and Little Bear seems to understand it. She even asks to go to the potty, and will sit on it… Only to stand back up without doing a thing. Sometimes, I can even get her to sit through “Potty Time With Elmo” on that little potty. But she will. Not. Use it. Every time she’s even come close, Bear stands up at the last second. If you make her sit too long, she’ll throw a migraine-inducing tantrum.
What I Plan To Do
First of all, I intend to have more patience this time. I read too many success stories with that “Potty Training In Three Days” method, so that’s what I expected to happen. Boy, was I frustrated at that false advertising.
Next, I’m gonna get me a bag of supplies together. It’s going to look a little something like this (because it is this. I already did the thing.):
I’m going to set aside a full week for this plan. At least four of those days will be spent entirely at home. During this time, I’m going to keep my basket of goodies at my side, as I let Riley run around in big girl underwear. The hope here, is to make her uncomfortable. Eventually she’ll get tired of the gross feeling, or of having to stop everything to change clothes.
I’m also going to throw the Potty Chart method in with that, and let her put a sticker on every time she goes to sit on her potty. She’ll get a cookie when she actually USES the potty.
To Be Continued…
